MARKETING FAQ for
ARTISTS
What marketing services does Galapagos
provide for artists?
Galapagos promotes its shows on our
website, in our weekly email (which goes out to 14,000 subscribers every
Monday), and through press releases. We also have a street team which will
distribute posters and flyers. We do not, however, make these posters and
flyers for you. You should design and produce them yourself, and then drop
them off at Galapagos any day after 12pm.
What does Galapagos need from me in
order to market me effectively?
Please send to marketing@galapagosartspace.com: the name of your event, the date and time, the
price you agreed on with the Artistic Director, as well as a description of the
event, any press quotes you may have, and a 72dpi image. We’ll use this
information in our online calendar as well as in our press
releases.
What press does Galapagos tell about
my show?
We have contacts at all the main NYC
dailies and weeklies – including The NY Times, Village Voice, NY Press, Newsday,
Time Out, L Magazine, AM NY, Metro NY, etc. If you want to be listed in
these publications, you must get us your information at least 3 weeks in
advance of your show. That way we can make sure we meet all the press
deadlines.
Should I send out my own press
release?
Yes. If possible, you should also
send out your own press release about your show. It never hurts to hit
press people twice! They’re busy and can always stand to hear about
something multiple times.
Should I market my own
show?
Absolutely. Galapagos is here to help you
out, but your show will only be a success if you work to promote it
yourself!
How can I market my own
show?
-Promote your show to your friends and
fans. Email, Friendster, MySpace, Facebook, are all good ways to do
this.
-Put the show (and a link to www.galapagosartspace.com) on your website
-Surf the net looking for blogs and
websites for people who might enjoy your show (for example, if you’re doing a
puppet show, look for sites of puppet enthusiasts) and email them about your
show. Ask them to post it.
-Make posters and flyers and get them
to Galapagos so we can distribute them for you.
-Distribute flyers outside the Bedford L
train stop on the night of your show… and maybe even on other nights leading up
to your show. The best time to do this is when people are coming home from
work: 6-8pm.
Where can I get my posters and flyers
printed?
Anywhere you want, but we would suggest
using the UPS Store on Bedford Ave in Williamsburg. It’s cheap, fast, and
they know Galapagos well. You can reach them at (718)
218-6440.
