Hazzards Makeout Party
with the Debutantes + The Kreutzenjammer Kids

Galapagos's favorite ukelele rockers present their monthly program of music and comedy.

The Debutantes are an NYC post-pop metro-dance-punk band that performs a "mammoth set list done in a little over 30 minutes, as dual vocalists Abby and Jaime blitzkrieg through their shimmery pop ditties with a relish and enthusiastic aplomb that is downright infectious and grin-inducing." -Jenyk.com
www.thedebutantesnyc.com

When punch-drunk joke-folk chanteusse Phoebe Kreutz joined forces with her louder friends, they all magically became The Kreutzenjammer Kids. It's a little bit silly, a little bit punky and all in good fun. Phoebe provides the taste, and Casey Holford, Chris Maher and Yoko Kikuchi provide the bite.
They turn sweet ditties about traveling and beer into shouting matches and power ballads.

Bourbon Princess

"Casting a sonic spell that’s spooky, hypnotic, and often nightmarish, Bourbon Princess mixes droning bass, world weary tenor saxophone, jazzy percussion, and washes of textural guitar into a startlingly original ensemble sound....Fans of Tom Waits, Portishead, and Nick Cave will feel right at home."

Noble Society + DJ Gravy + The Roughstars

Noble Society (top picture) is a strong contender for the title of America's Best Urban Reggae Group. With classics like "Sound Bwoy Bureill", "D&D Soundclash" and a heap of current rhythms under frontman Jahdan's belt, it's just no contest. The Roughstars have quickly formed a cult following off their mixtape release. www.noblesociety.com

"Brooklyn's Noble Society harkens back to a time when the term 'hip-hop-meets-dancehall' meant more than slapping Sean Paul on a remix." -The Village Voice

The Roughstars (bottom picture): "NYC's constantly churning musical underground turns out a freakier, funkier group than it has in a long time... you need to hear this!" -Anthem Magazine www.homestylecooking.net

Ocularis
Award winning Cinema Series

10th Anniversary Screening

Half-Cocked
Suki Hawley, 1995, 80 minutes

"Life among would-be rockers gets a strikingly true-to-life treatment in this deapan road movie. Living in a crash house with too many spongers, Tara and her lazy friends need a way out of their going-no-where jobs. Relief of sorts arrives one night at a gig by a band featuring her brother, a posturing rock-star-in-his-own-mind. Anoyed by his antics, Tara impulsively swipes his equipment-filled van, inviting her friends along for the ride. Half-Cocked finds a way to shape everyday realities into gritty metaphors for why we live how we do. in this case, southern slacker kids, adrift in small-city recession, play fictionalized versions of themselves; the cast includes Tara Jane O'Neill and Ian Svenonious. Their sketchy adventures in a van full of stolen musical gear work as a deadbeat Gen-X myth of origins: life on the road, with nowhere to go." - Ed Halter

Filmmakers Suki Hawley and Mike Galinsky will be in attendance.
