Darmstadt New Music presents
Dave Schotzko, percussionist
http://www.iceorg.org/about/artist/schotzko.html
As a soloist, chamber musician, Program Director and founding percussionist of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), David Schotzko has premiered over 75 new works by composers from around the world. Till By Turning
http://www.tillbyturning.com/home.htm
Till by Turning believes in the cultural relevancy and emotional immediacy of challenging and experimental new music, and we perform and promote chamber music by both established and emerging musical artists. As young women interpreters, educators, improvisers, writers, and composers, we acknowledge that creative music wants creative performance--and we seek presentation strategies to implicitly question the traditional concert-going experience.
Composer and bassoonist Katherine Young writes acoustic and
electro-acoustic music, often using open forms and expressive, non-traditional notations.
Emily Manzo has won numerous awards and acclaim throughout the U.S. For her interpretation of new music. She has premiered the works of John Luther Adams, Kyle Gann, Susie Ibarra and Rob Reich, among others. Emily currently resides in New York where she performs regularly as a classical solo and chamber musician, and as a keyboardist and singer in an alternative country band and a psychadelic folk group.
Amy Cimini is a violist and musicologist based in New York City. She is in her second year of doctoral study at NYU and her interests include the history of the senses, deconstruction and music and the role of the voice in psychoanalytic thinking.
Sarah Biber graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Kappa Lambda from the Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music in 2003, earning degrees in Classics and cello. She completed her masters degree in performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2005. Whilst in Australia, Sarah performed in the Opera House with the Sydney Symphony and Sinfonia under such conductors as Gianluigi Gelmetti and Vladmir Ashkenazy.

Woodpecker!
Woodpecker! plays punk-influenced original bluegrass.
They’re currently a quartet (guitar, mandolin, banjo, and a cello). They combine pick slides and punk-rock jumps with the banjo licks, mandolin chops, and close harmonies native to bluegrass. The song structures and vocal melodies owe a lot to the energy and irreverence of pop-punk bands like Snuff and the Descendents, and lyrically, their songs flirt with sentimentality before kneeing it in the balls.

SO THE BEST SWEET ONE GOES
THE SWEET ONES: based in Brooklyn and brought together by a bar fight, THE SWEET ONES are mix of old school So-Cal skate punk, with some classic rock hits tucked in there too. They are with out a doubt a great high energy show sure to keep the beer flowing and hips shaking!
THE BEST: labeled "as joyously far from Broadway as it gets (while still being theater)," THE BEST intends to take it further and do a straight up rock gig. So the web rock theater battalion will commandeer Galapagos and unleash a barrage of new tunes in development for it's upcoming, never before seen show, "The7 Battles TheBest."
SO IT GOES: Hailing from Minneapolis and surging from its debut CD, "Historionics," SO IT GOES is a synergetic foursome that fuses the best elements of The Clash, The Cure, and Duran Duran. With intelligent lyrics and catchy grooves, the critics have taken notice, as Punk Rock Reviews recently wrote: SO IT GOES "is incredibly infectious and energetic, buoyed by the strong vocals and the dance-y atmosphere it invokes."

Mistakes music
On the ska tip, but with unabashed, yet seamless genre-mixing transitions, Mistakes have the musicianship, stage presence and even the interesting looks to rival any cult icons. At times loud and unhinged, rhythmic and focused, or even crooning with the starry sonic landscape of xylophone and keyboard, they’ve come as close as possible to their paradoxical tagline “experimental pop style.” When one sees Mistakes, one may wish to never do anything “right” again. Galapagos is hosting a night of Mistakes music with partners in crime Coltrane Motion and others.

Founded in 2003 by Jenny Seastone Stern as a home for the emerging avant-garde, Catch has become an integral part of the downtown community, presenting short and in-progress works by Big Dance Theater, David Neumann , Cynthia Hopkins, Christopher Williams, Miguel Gutierrez, Young Jean Lee, Karinne Keithley, Faye Driscoll, Adrienne Truscott, Neal Medlyn, Jennifer Monson , John Moran, Heather Olson, Witness Relocation, Chris Yon, members of the National Theater of the United States of America , and dozens of terrific artists you may not have heard of … yet.
Catch presents a stunning array of emerging artists, giving them the opportunity to share a stage with an expanding galaxy of downtown luminaries. This makes everyone's work more exciting, raising the stakes for young creators and encouraging experimental freedom in our more accomplished artists.
Not only does Catch have "the best short-form programming going," it also has the best looking audience; beautiful young people who come to drink, see great work and mingle with the artists after the show. Galapagos' roughly glorious architecture, its full stage and full bar, enable Jeff and Andrew to craft a show unique among group shows. Catch is a social hour and a serious show, where loyal fans of the individual artists mingle with catch allegiates to view work they know will be rough and ready.
At Catch 23 , Jeanine will create a fictionalized real-time documentary or a real-time document of memory or a memorized execution of personal history,
Karinne will extend her popular, internet based Basement Tapes of the Mole Cabal into performance, combining materials from video collection expeditions with her inimitable live singing and musical accompaniment,
Daniel will penetrate into the dark, at times evil, heart of his subconscious, peeling and examining the layers of culture and language to search for authentic selfhood. Ritualistically repeating words and motion, he'll bring himself and the audience into a hyper-self-conscious trance,
and Rachel will perform a Gilbert & Sullivan inspired lounge act.

"Dance, theater and performance from the wilder shores." - The Village Voice
*
"... a social event as much as an artistic one. Everywhere young artists, emerging and otherwise, schmoozed with people they'd worked with, slept with, feuded with, gotten high with, had crushes on, and 'seen around.'
"Short acts and all of them memorable - you really can't go wrong. Like an excellent compilation CD, or a really good salad bar - lots of little tastes of stuff you might want more of when you're in the mood."
- Rachel Shukert, Culturebot.org
