Co-presented with Bindlestiff Family Variety Arts

One Monday of every month, Galapagos Art Space is dedicated to New York City's variety, vaudeville, aerial, and circus artists. Celebrating works in progress, emerging artists, and professionals trying something new, this night promises many surprises. Artists are invited to perform in New York City's first certified "Green" Cultural venue. The monthly showcase is open to all variety entertainers: jugglers, hoofers, magicians, aerialists, physical comedians, opera singers, violin playing pogo stickers, steppers, acrobats... The stage is here for artists to work out material in front of a live audience.

Book Launch Event for
The New Yorker editor
Ben Greenman's Please Step Back

Join Melville House co-publishers Dennis Loy Johnson and Valerie Merians to celebrate the launch of Ben Greenman's much-buzzed-about, ferociously intelligent funk-rock novel,Please Step Back. Praised by Walter Mosley for the way it "sings of the back-street, back-stage hyper-kinetic moment when music, stardom, and cultural sea changes pushed America irrevocably forward."

New Yorker pop music critic Sasha Frere-Jones joins Greenman live on stage for a conversation on writing, music, and more, and DJ Doc Delay (Psycrunk) takes charge of the after-party.
The first 72 people to arrive in fashion evocative of the era receive a complimentary cocktail and book (between 7 and 8 PM).

The program begins at 8PM sharp.
