Earl Dax Presents:

BEWARE: The IDAS of March
featuring
TAYLOR MAC, BRANDON OLSON,
and NEEDLES JONES

Ida is a peak in central Crete. It is the highest elevation on the island and in ancient times was closely associated with the worship of Zeus. On Tuesday, March 15th (the Ides of March), Earl Dax presents a trio of Idas, pagan polytheistic perverts whose mere existence is a challenge to our present-day political tyrants... BEWARE: the IDAS of March!

Fresh from his role in Elizabeth Swados' "JABU," performance artist Taylor Mac (pictured) presents the B-sides; he'll reprise favorite numbers that he has only performed once and/or hasn't performed in a long time. Performance artist and club personality Brandon Olson hits the decks with his new musical project PNP. Direct from Philthy-delphia, Needles Jones - pariah of the drag community - presents an encore performance of her autobiographical saga "A Life Well Squandered... The Needles Jones Story."

EARL DAX (producer) - For nearly two years, Dax has produced the Direct from NYC performance series, bringing the best of New York's downtown performance scene to Philadelphia. Among the 30 shows he has produced are Karen Finley's "Make Love," Kiki & Herb, Mike Albo's "I Can Only Come So Far,"and Murray Hill's first-ever solo show. "BEWARE: The IDAS of March" is his first show in New York after recently relocating to Williamsburg. He currently produces VANGUARD SUNDAYS, a weekly alternative performance cabaret in Philadelphia.

Triphazard + Andre LaFosse + Sarge
an eclectic musical smorgasbord

Triphazard, a multinational cast lead by Slovene singer/ composer Manca Klanjscek, combines the aesthetic of American jazz with Balkan rhythms and the textural possibilities of improvised digital electronics. (Manca Klanjscek - voice, Dave Weeks - affected winds, Aaron Jennings - guitar/ laptop, Eivind Opsvik - double bass/ effects, Brad Wentworth - drums/ djembe)
http://www.triphazard.us

Andre LaFosse, a cutting-edge cut-up of funk, hip-hop, and glitchy leftfield electronic music, performed live, on a solo electric guitar, with no pre-recorded material, and no sounds other than those made by bare hands on steel strings. (Andre LaFosse - guitar, echoplex)
http://www.altruistmusic.com

Sarge, a glitchophile, a delay layered connoisseur, will get you naked and dancing, then regretful the next day. His love of the disharmonious, however, is tempered by an ever present undercurrent of heartache and slow rolling meditations on sadness and the detached state. (Ejiah B. Torn - laptop, bass)

Shadow Boys + Summer Lawns

Summer Lawns position intimate vocals and songwriting amid a grand backdrop of lush instrumentation, creating songs that are at once both shimmering and spare, ephemeral yet profound. As if Nick Drake sat down for drinks with Yo La Tengo in Low's palatial kitchen at 3 in the morning. http://www.summerlawnsband.com

The Shadow Boys are a lo-fi Americana Rural Punk Rockabilly Paranoid Sad Garage Folk Act. Backstage writes "Just one of the tunes composed by pianist/lead singer Adam Weiner would be the envy of any songwriter, but combined together and performed by a single group, it's an astounding tour-de-force." http://www.shadowboys.com

Possessing 8 horns, MK Groove can become full-blown chaotic polyphony one moment and straight funk the next. Flexibility and resourcefulness characterize this young band with a tremendous knack for song writing and structure and the often difficult task of improvising in a large band setting." -The Spectrum, University of Buffalo

Eclectic, energetic performance with some of NYC's hottest up and coming artists.

All was flawlessly executed-Jenny Seastone Stern and her co-curator, Andrew Dinwiddie, assembled a group of interesting, eclectic artists with something for everyone. Interested in serious, body twisting modern dance to New Age-y music? Got it. Ironic, tongue-in-cheek "boy-theater"? Got it. Hot girls being naughty/funny in small outfits? Got it."

Chris Lancaster + The Ambitious Orchestra + Reverend Glasseye & His Wooden Legs

The Ambitious Orchestra (20 members!) is New York's only ensemble dedicated to bringing punk rock spunk back to classical music, and virtuosity back to rock and roll. Tonight, they'll breathe new life into the genres with brand-new original rock songs and a violent, rambunctious interpretation of Holst's MARS, BRINGER OF WAR.

Opener Chris Lancaster is one of New York's most intriguing and in-demand cellists, combining elements of rock, electronica and classical in his live performances. Using a plethora of effects pedals, loops, processors and electronic miscellany, Lancaster creates dance-inducing riffs and then adds layer upon layer upon layer of stringy goodness.

"A Performance by Reverend Glasseye and his Wooden Legs (pictured) can be a weird time warp of a spectacle. Glasseye wheezes and croones his cryptic poetry, banging out 2/4 rhythms on an acoustic guitar while his backing group, the Wooden Legs, wielding instruments such as standup bass, concertina and clarinet, lurch through a dark-but-goofy oompah Klezmer and gospel accompaniment." - The Boston Globe

Judy Gorman:
Dos Pueblos Sister School Project Benefit Concert

Blues rooted original songs, rich smokey vocals and evocative, soulful,
often political lyrics.

Dos Pueblos is a Sister City Project linking NYC with Tipitapa, Nicaragua for over 15 years. The Sister School Project reinitiated almost 3 years ago with the last public school in the Free Trade Zone, which has since been forced to "autonomize" and charge poor children tuition. NY Teacher Susan D'Alloia & Boston Teacher Tara Weber have been volunteering in the school since September 2004 and have initiated ecological, sports, language & yoga activities. They also accompanied the Nicaraguan teachers & students through a month of strikes in February, until the Nicaraguan government agreed to pay minimal salaries.
