> Thursday, January 15, 8pm, $15Coney Island Burlesque An evening of burlesque, Coney Island-style, with a special performance by Frisky & Mannish, the comedic variety duo all the way from Great Britain.
This Ambitious Orchestra is New York's own symphonic rock band. Led by accordionist/singer Benjamin Ickies, they create a new sound by combining classical instrumentation, with virtuosic rock and roll. Having provided orchestrated for The Dresden Dolls, Rasputina and The Wau-Wau Sisters amongst others, tonight they present their own original rock songs and collaborations with some very special guests including Rachelle Garniez, Corn Mo and Curtis Eller.
At this release party for the New Music Gamelan Ensemble's album, Innova #718, the Indonesian music group showcases each member's unique composing style. They use gongs, metalophones, drums, voices and an assortment of unexpected things.
The Migrant The Migrant is Denmark musician Bjarke Bendtsen's experimental, folk-inspired pop songs on guitar, ukulele, tambourine and other instruments. In Bendsten's words, "This project is my excuse for packing the suitcase, selling all furniture and leaving for parts of the world I haven't seen before. Hopefully the songs and a guitar will make it less expensive. Definitely more fun!" Listen to The Migrant's simple and moving strummings here.
