Mistakes (top pic)

On the ska tip but with unabashed, yet seamless genre-mixing transitions, Mistakes have the musicianship, stage presence and even the interesting looks to rival any cult icons. At times loud and unhinged, rhythmic and focused, or even crooning with the starry sonic landscape of xylophone and keyboard, they’ve come as close as possible to their paradoxical tagline “experimental pop style.” When one sees Mistakes, one may wish to never do anything right again.

Viva Nada (middle pic)

Two drumsets.  Two guitars.  Two basses.  Two synths.  Five phrase samplers.  Three musicians.  Viva Nada sometimes makes driving, fast-paced music similar in sound to the Boredoms and Dance Disaster Movement, yet there are also those frenetic songs under 2 minutes, extremely long, quiet improvisations and cryptic lyrics that may leave a listener unable to satisfactorily relegate Viva Nada into any one genre.  That is not to say that Viva Nada is perfectly eclectic or novel; only that they are successfully operating near the perimeter of the musical arena.  The result is worth investigation.
