THE BUNKER

Bruno Pronsato (Hello?Repeat, Telegraph, Orac | Berlin) live pa

After successful runs at Tonic & Luna, one of NYC's most successful & long running dance parties, THE BUNKER, officially moves to the back room @ Galapagos every FRIDAY starting July 6!!!

THE BUNKER is a successful weekly dance music party, now in it's fifth year. THE BUNKER is run by Spinoza and resident DJ Derek Plaslaiko, with Seze handling the photography and hostess duties. We are more or less entirely focused on quality techno and house, with the occasional sonic oddity to keep people on their feet. We have some of our favorite producers and DJs from around the world dropping by for sets every week. The vibe just keeps getting darker, dancier, and more debaucherous every week -- we like it that way.

Matt Kanelos with Big Swifty

Matt Kanelos (www.mattkanelos.com)

Originally form Chicago, Matt Kanelos has recently emerged as an exciting new voice on New York City’s downtown music scene.  With a vocal style calling to mind Paul Simon and James Taylor, a songwriting concept in the realm of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, and a touch at the keyboard reminiscent of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, Matt commands the stage with a disarming grace distinctly his own.

Big Swifty (www.myspace.com/bigswiftymusic)

Big Swifty is a reggae/progressive/power pop/hippie rock/etc. band that enjoys blurring musical boundaries.  Whatever it is, we’re pretty sure it’s not indie rock.  Songwriter Dave Crowell lives just down the way in the lovely Polish enclave of Greenpoint, where he formulates the songs on a small keyboard and then presents them to the multi talented individuals of Big Swifty, where the songs then come roaring to life.

Danger Diabolik by Mario Bava
with some of Brooklyn's Best Shorts

Every two weeks Reel Life Movie House presents a free screening high-quality local shorts followed by a classic feature film at Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg. We have created the very first screening room in the hippest neighborhood in the city, while giving talented local filmmakers a venue to show their work.

This week (July 8) we're moving to Sunday and encouraging all sorts of naughty behavior with the 60s spy flick Danger: Diabolik. Come have a drink or two as dangerous Diabolik and his sexy girlfriend Eva, lie, steal and kill  their way across the screen.

Before to the feature we'll show two of New York's best independent shorts: Carlotta Propersi's irreverent take on superheros, "Mothman!" and Nick Kinling's "Waiting Room" a unique visual experience. As always, there's free popcorn and a free drink for whomever wins the trivia contest.
