ABOUT THE NATURAL SELECTIONS SERIES

A new visual art series at Galapagos Art Space.

Galapagos is initiating a new visual arts series, called “Natural Selection,” to be held in our 400 square foot reflection pool, located at the entrance of the space.  Galapagos is now soliciting installation works incorporating sculpture, painting, photography, video art, and more.

All of the artwork selected for installation will be site-specific: the artist is encouraged to utilize the inherent strengths of the space.  The water in the reflection pool is dyed with a black ink to heighten its reflective properties.  Another distinctive quality of the space is that the work can be viewed from three distinct vantage points—through the front window from the street, laterally from a metal bridge, and from inside the performance area.  This allows for a viewer to experience the piece almost completely in the round.

Works selected for the series will also seek to take advantage of the fact that we are a performance space and incorporate an aspect of performance into the piece.  This event or happening could take place on the night of the opening or on several occasions throughout the duration of the show.
